A formula for success

SPRINGVALE’S number-crunching primary school students are scooping distinctions in an Australia-wide maths test.
Seven students from Spring Valley Primary School in Springvale South last week received distinctions and credits from the University of New South Wales after taking part in the university’s national maths test.
Principal Clive Bridges said the test was geared towards primary school-aged children, with the aim of improving students’ maths abilities.
“The tests assess knowledge, problem-solving and higher order thinking in key aspects of mathematics,” he said.
“Seven students were awarded with Certificates of Credit and Distinction to recognise their outstanding achievement.”
The 22 entrants ranged from grades four, five and six and seven received awards for rating among the country’s best at maths – Simon Lao, Alicia Nguyen-Huynh, Jason Ly, Isabella Luk, Elton Chau and Nicole Hawley.
