NOBLE Park Secondary College student Kayla Rizzo was shocked to receive a Noble Park Rotary award.
The 16-year-old took home an Arthur Williams Junior Citizenship Award and a gold watch last month, for academic achievement and extra-curricular activities.
The Rotarian who the award is named after championed and encouraged the efforts of youths within the community.
“I was really surprised, because it’s one of the biggest awards I’ve ever received,” Kayla said.
“I didn’t really expect to receive an award. I thought everybody would be doing the same.”
The Year 10 student said she’d received a number of academic awards, was involved with the school’s representative council and a drama group and was a school vice-captain.
She has her sights set on a teaching career, specialising in English and Japanese.
“I like helping my friends and students in general,” she said.
“When they need help they come to me and I help them.
“I just do it naturally by instinct.”
