DANDENONG nurse Amanda du Toit shaved her head to support cancer research this month – for the fifth time.
“I started working on a ward with cancer patients in 2008 and what they and their families go through inspired me to do the shave to try to find a cure for leukaemia,” she said.
“I also lost a friend to cancer.”
Ms du Toit’s first shave was in 2010 and her daughters joined her the following year, the youngest colouring and the oldest shaving and donating her hair.
“In 2012 a colleague and I shaved and in 2013 three of us from work shaved,” she said.
This year she was on her own in the fundraiser and lost her locks on 14 March.
“Every small contribution towards finding a cure and making life easier for the patients helps, so each year the donations or sponsors you manage will make it easier for the patients,” she said.
“You never know when someone really close to yourself will need the support.
“After all, for a couple of weeks it is very easy hair days!”
