The Noble Park Primary School will use an $18,310 State Government grant to shield students from the sun.
Keysborough MP Martin Pakula announced on Tuesday 18 October that the school had been successful in the School Shade Grant Program’s second round.
The cash can go towards building new shade structures, repairing existing shade, buying portable shade or creating natural shade by planting trees.
Australia has the highest rates of skin cancer in the world and childhood and adolescence are periods where over-exposure to UV radiation is more likely to contribute to skin cancer later in life.
“We know kids love spending time outdoors and that’s why it’s important that they learn about being sun smart and being healthy when they are outside,” Mr Pakula said.
