Anti-crime cash announced

Attendees at the Youth Crime Prevention Workshop.

A $700,000 grant will tackle youth crime in Greater Dandenong.
Dandenong MP Gabrielle Williams announced the cash at a Youth Crime Prevention Workshop on Friday 17 February.
Representatives from Victoria Police, City of Greater Dandenong, agencies and community groups joined her at the event in the conference rooms of Department of Justice and Regulation south east metro regional office on Thomas Street.
Ms Williams said that the number of young offenders had fallen over the past decade, but a small number of young criminals were committing serious crimes more frequently.
The cash will target young people who were offending or at risk of offending through a partnership between the courts, youth agencies and police.
“This is an investment in the future of Dandenong’s youth and will deliver evidence-based crime prevention projects that make a difference to their lives,” Ms Williams said.
“Intervening early and getting young people more involved in our community will make a significant difference to community safety.”
Another workshop in March will further develop the ideas and initiatives raised at this event.
