Teens charged over carjack attack

Police have swooped on four teens over a brutal carjacking in Springvale.
A 59-year-old Springvale South man suffered head injuries and was taken to hospital following the Sunday 9 July incident on Springvale Road.
His daughter led police to the alleged attackers after spotting his stolen Honda Civic in traffic in Springvale about 10.30pm the next day.
She followed the car while on the phone to police, who swooped on the car while it was stopped in traffic in Chelsea Heights.
They arrested three teenage boys, two aged 16 and one aged 15, and a teenage girl, aged 16, and charged them with assault, motor vehicle theft and other offences.
The Journal understands the victim was hearing impaired and his hearing aid was dislodged during the attack, which occurred about 7.30pm.
It’s alleged he was parked in a Warwick Avenue car park when four people approached.
The Journal understands that CCTV footage of the incident shows the attackers stomping on the victim’s head, and he appears to fall unconscious.
They then allegedly left the scene in his car.
Police have clarified that the man was not an Uber driver as reported elsewhere.
