Vision dims over poor lighting

Lighting in Dandenong’s main strip is due for rejuvenation.
During public question time at the Monday 14 August Greater Dandenong Council meeting, resident Carmel Puglisi pointed out that many lights in the Lonsdale Street lighting feature were not working and asked whether they’d be repaired.
The 60 rectangular lights are atop a strip of poles and change colours.
Engineering services director Julie Reid said the lights had been malfunctioning because they had been “impacted by traffic incidents over an extended period of time”.
She said the council had allocated funding to investigate the problem and repair works would take place during two to three weeks in September and October.
“We will have to turn them off for the duration of the works,” Ms Reid said.
“We recognise the significance of the lighting design and the impact it’s had and the value to the community.
“We’re excited about being able to reinvigorate them.”
The lights were installed about seven years ago as part of the Revitalising Central Dandenong project.
The vision for Lonsdale Street was to make it one of Melbourne’s great boulevards, green and pedestrian-friendly.
