Council moves towards school

KEYSBOROUGH South needs a primary school, and City of Greater Dandenong councillors are on the case.
Paperbark Ward councillor Peter Brown at Monday night’s council meeting moved that officers consider all options open to the council to facilitate the earliest reservation, provision or securing of land to build a primary school for the area.
The motion recognised that the State Government had failed to reserve land for a primary school in the new estates of Keysborough South both under construction and planned.
Officers will also investigate the possibility of securing land for public open space alongside a school.
Lightwood Ward councillor Sean O’Reilly said the motion was “the sort of pro-active behaviour that a lot of councils wouldn’t engage in”.
“We know the situation with the state and federal governments. There’s perceived funding pressure,” he said.
“If we can in any way assist in the planning of the land, then our residents are going to be better off.”
