SEABL: Rangers’ streak snapped in Tassie

DANDENONG Rangers’ winning streak was halted at nine in the South East Australian Basketball League men’s competition on Saturday night.

The Rangers were beaten 103-87 by North West Tasmania after the Rangers’ 96-94 win over Hobart Chargers on Friday night.

In the NW Tasmania game, import Tony Lewis (24 points) led the Rangers in scoring while against the Chargers import Daequon Montreal went off for a season-high 36 points.

The Rangers women had a much more successful Tasmanian trip, winning both matches.

The Rangers beat Hobart 83-73 on Friday night with Clare Papavs scoring 28 points, then the visitors easily accounted for Launceston 101-56 on Saturday night with Faith Probst leading her side with 22 points. The Rangers women are now on a seven-game winning streak.

The Rangers men and women play Nunawading at Nunawading this Saturday night, with the Rangers men hosting Mt Gambier at Dandenong Stadium on Sunday at 12.30pm.

■ WNBL champions Dandenong Rangers have announced another signing with former Rangers junior Carley Mijovic returning to the club for next WNBL season.

Mijovic, who won the WNBL rookie of the year award this past season, has signed on with the Rangers following the Australian Institute of Sport’s exit from the league.
