GREATER Dandenong mayor Maria Sampey this week called for a hoon hotline to be established for the region, similar to that used in the City of Casey.
Cr Sampey said the hotline would be a 1800 number and that council would collect residents’ information on the behaviour of hoons in an effort to identify hotspots.
City of Greater Dandenong chief executive officer Carl Wulff said data would be handed to police, who would handle the law enforcement component.
Cr Sampey called for an officer’s report to be undertaken on the matter.
She said that the City of Greater Dandenong was supposed to be a ‘leader’, and not a ‘follower’ of other councils that had already introduced the hotline.
