Noble Park plan proceeds

By Shaun Inguanzo
NOBLE Park’s redevelopment is closer to reality after councillors voted to seek the Planning Minister’s authority to amend the Greater Dandenong Planning Scheme to allow for a series of improvements.
The Noble Park Activity Centre is a designated zone that the council must redevelop under the State Government’s Melbourne 2030 strategy.
It encompasses the current retail and shopping precinct south of Heatherton Road, including Ian Street and Douglas Street.
Public space north of Heatherton Road and bordering Memorial Drive is also included in the activity centre zone.
A proposed development plan includes town squares or public plazas towards the east end of Douglas Street, next to a new retail development on the northern side of Douglas Street.
Douglas, Ian and Buckley streets and Leonard Avenue will be made more pedestrian friendly, while Heatherton Road and Noble Street have been designated as “vehicle orientated” roads.
To enact the changes, the council must apply to the State Government to have the Greater Dandenong Planning Scheme amended.
The amendment will provide frameworks to develop the land and guidance for developers.
