Carrum United gets close to cut

CARRUM United travelled to Warragul in search of a win and three points on Saturday.
The team got a great start, creating several chances in the first half through Alan Busuttil and Mauro Cordoma, who combined well up front but failed to convert their good work into goals.
At half-time, with the score nil-all, it looked like Carrum was about to break its sequence of recent poor results.
On resumption Warragul made the most of an early chance and scored in the 65th minute, putting Carrum on the back foot. Carrum continued to press in search of an equaliser but then received another blow when its skilful midfielder Lyall Johann received his marching orders for an indiscreet foul.
Gary Frezzini pushed into the midfield from the back line in an attempt to support the forwards, however Carrum was exposed in the back and on a heavy surface legs tired and Carrum conceded another three goals to lose 0-4.
This week is a catch-up round that gives time for Carrum United to regroup and get players fit for the next game against third-bottom Rowville Eagles at the Italo Australian Social Club on 19 August. It may be the last throw of dice in Carrum’s battle to save itself from relegation.
In the reserves game Warragul ran out an easy winner 5-1.
