TRAFFIC police will target Monash Freeway drivers for the next month to catch speeding motorists, mobile phone users and tailgaters.
A joint operation between the state’s police regions covering the Monash Freeway, called Operation Linker, will be the first of its kind.
Region Four Assistant Commissioner Bob Hastings said the 51-kilometre freeway would be covered from Melbourne through to Beaconsfield. The operation begins this week and ends on 7 August.
Police said there were 4695 collisions on the Monash Freeway between October 2000 and August 2005.
