TOP Queensland stayer Miss Brook put on an emphatic display to set the time mark for the Sir John Dillon heats with a fastest winning time of 42.45 seconds at Sandown Park last Thursday, to be installed as a warm favourite for tonight’s (Thursday’s) final at the track.
The classy bitch drew perfectly with box one in the Group 2 final with equal second fancies Sky Hazzard and Flashing Floods coming out of squeeze boxes four and six respectively.
After working her way through traffic at the first turn, Miss Brook, a perennial Group finalist, moved into fifth going past the post first time around.
From that point, she always appeared to have the edge on her rivals and ultimately pulled away down the stretch for a soft win by 3.25 lengths over a gallant Sundae Sipper.
Earlier in the night, Flashing Floods ran 42.75 seconds to defeat the New South Wales chaser Lyn’s Daisy by two lengths.
In typical fashion, Flashing Floods led throughout and, despite weakening in the final stages, always had her rivals covered.
The other heat produced something of an upset when Kulu Magic proved too strong for Sassy Is Flying and the in-form Sky Hazzard.
Kibble Kruncha just failed to make up sufficient ground to qualify for the $36,000 final.
In the feature sprint, the Bill Collins Memorial, Shanlyn Prince pressed his claims for a berth in the upcoming Topgun with a determined win over a class field including the likes of Suave Fella, Hot To Rumble and Train A Journey.
Topgun aspirants Betty’s Angel and Pure Burst were both scratched from the event but are both expected to be ready for the call-up should a berth in the event be in the offing.
