Haileybury course set for Vietnam

By Shaun Inguanzo
A KEYSBOROUGH school’s curriculum will be taught in Vietnam under an initiative announced early this month.
Haileybury College has established a partnership with the International High School in Ho Chi Minh City.
Under the partnership Haileybury will work with the International High School to develop programs and a curriculum that brings Western teaching methods to the Vietnamese school.
The International High School aims to prepare Vietnamese students to study in both local and international universities by adopting Western teaching methods.
The Education Director of Ho Chi Minh City, Huynh Cong Minh, and the Principal of the International School, Le Duc Anh visited Haileybury and toured the campus this month.
The partnership means the International High School will run the Haileybury Middle School and VCE courses in Vietnam. The lessons will be delivered and assessed in English.
Teachers will have to undertake a Haileybury training program before being able to teach.
Haileybury vice-principal Nicholas Dwyer said the program would strengthen ties between Vietnam and Australia.
“This project will further develop pathways for Vietnamese students to Victorian universities whilst underpinning Melbourne’s commercial, cultural and family ties with Ho Chi Minh City,” Mr Dwyer said.
“Haileybury sees its future as an Australian school with an international outlook.
“Building on its professional relationships with education departments in several provinces in China, where it delivers the VCE, Haileybury is pleased to have established a relationship with the Education Department of Ho Chi Minh City.
“Haileybury looks forward to a project where by it is able to export its professional know-how to Vietnam,” Mr Dwyer said.
The two schools are also developing an Australian program from Prep to Year 12, he said, which would be delivered by a mixture of Australian and Vietnamese teachers.
