THE National Union of Workers has reported that the Leader Newspaper Group, with a branch in Cheltenham, stood down 40 workers on Tuesday.
The workers, all members of the NUW, were involved in work bans after the company refused to agree to a clause allowing for Australian Industrial Relations Commission arbitration in their first collective agreement.
The National Union of Workers members had proposed bans on the processing of advertising sales dockets that is the processing of any advertising for the publications after negotiations for their first Enterprise Bargaining Agreement broke down late on Monday afternoon.
But according to the NUW, when they arrived at work at 8am on Tuesday, they were issued with letters stating they either performed their full duties or would be stood down without pay.
