IN response to an article on the 2006 Mayoral Charity Concert (in another newspaper), I would like to clarify some important points.
All of the information in the article pertaining to council’s $10,000 donation to the 2006 Mayoral Charity Concert has been on public record since last year.
Details of this donation, along with figures showing how much money the concert’s beneficiaries received, were published in the local media on at least three occasions between August and October 2006. This information is far from “secret”, as reported.
Further, the mayor of the day committed a $10,000 donation to the 2006 Mayoral Charity Concert well before the event was held – not after, as inferred in the story. It was not a move orchestrated by council to “bail out” the event.
Council’s main priority was to give the 2006 Mayoral Charity Concert the best chance possible to raise money for three very worthy causes.
As a result, almost $9500 was donated to charity.
