LEARN how to identify and control weeds during the City of Greater Dandenong’s Warriors Against Weeds Day this month.
The event will run during Weedbusters Week, which is set aside for weed control and awareness activities.
Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea said weeds choked out native plants, reducing the available food and shelter for native birds and animals, and decreasing overall biodiversity.
“If you’re sick of weeds spreading throughout your garden, I recommend you come along to the Warriors Against Weeds Day to find out how you can fight back,” Cr Chea said.
Event attendees are invited to bring an invasive weed from their garden to exchange for a free indigenous plant.
There’s also something to keep the children entertained, with Woody Weed set to run fun activities during the day.
The Warriors Against Weeds Day is on Sunday 28 October between 10am and 1pm at the Dandenong Environment Group Community Nursery behind the council’s Operations Centre at 20 Bennet Street, Dandenong.
