King reigns at Burra

Brad Kingsbury
KEYSBOROUGH Football Club is the latest Casey-Cardinia club to snare a former Australian Football League player with the news that Clinton King had agreed to play with the club in 2006.
Club president Clay Cullen said newly appointed senior coach Paul Jefferies had been responsible for the recruitment of the former Collingwood and Richmond midfielder, who played with South Adelaide last season.
King will act as the club’s assistant coach and be joined by South Adelaide team-mates William Gayfer and 2005 best and fairest Michael Davis.
Cullen confirmed the appointments last week, ending uncertainty about the club’s future.
Jefferies moved to Keysborough as chairman of selectors after his former club Carrum Downs folded last year.
He was one of several candidates for the Burra’s top position.
Keysborough went through 2005 without a senior victory after transferring from the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League’s Nepean division at the end of 2004.
While its off-field result was positive, attracting top-notch recruits was vital to the club’s future and Cullen said there was potentially several other additions in the pipeline.
He was also optimistic the majority of this season’s list would now stay with the battling club after several recently indicated they would look elsewhere unless recruits were signed.
