Randall to attempt another go at Bruce

By Shaun Inguanzo
ANGELA Randall will have a second attempt at winning the seat of Bruce for the Liberal Party.
Ms Randall is the party’s candidate for the seat and will battle against incumbent Labor MP Alan Griffin after he narrowly defeated Ms Randall at the 2004 election.
Ms Randall, a Hampton resident who has worked within Greater Dandenong, said she had returned as Liberal candidate because she was committed to Bruce and believed there was a strong chance the Liberals could win the seat.
The margin for Bruce is 3.5 per cent in favour of Labor and Ms Randall admitted there was much hard work to be done to convince the electorate she was ready to represent them.
But as a health professional for 30 years, a former president of the Health Information management Association of Australia, and former lecturer at Melbourne University, Ms Randall said she had never felt more ready for the role.
According to the Australian Electoral Commission, the seat’s history shows it has only recently become a Labor seat.
The Liberals had control of Bruce from its proclamation in 1955 until the 1996 election when Mr Griffin took control.
Bruce takes in parts of Dandenong North, Springvale and Noble Park, and also includes Mulgrave, Wheelers Hill, Syndal and Glen Waverley.
Ms Randall said she would focus on issues affecting families, health care and early learning, and while she supported the Howard Government’s workplace reform, would still like to see it promoted to young workers with greater clarity.
