A NOBLE PARK callisthenics dancer has been selected for the Victorian team.
Nicole Smith, 20, will compete in this year’s National Callisthenics championship in July in Perth. The Victorian team selection process began in November after Ms Smith endured two nerve-racking auditions.
“I was pretty nervous as it was the first time in my 16 years of dancing that I had auditioned for the state team,” Ms Smith said.
She is one of 25 girls selected for this year’s team, training every Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
Ms Smith said her first reaction was pure excitement.
“This is the biggest competition I have competed in so my goal is to perform well and, of course, win. Time management and being organised are crucial for me while I study, work and dance. Dancing in general is individual, but callisthenics is about being part of a team,” she said.
Ms Smith is also seeking sponsorship to assist her competing in future National Championships.
Selection has Nicole in a state of euphoria
