Shock stops armed man

POLICE used an electric shock gun known as a Taser to suppress a man armed with a large knife in Dandenong North.
On 28 December at 7.40pm, police from the Critical Incident Response Team attended a Taurus Avenue house and were confronted by a man holding a large knife.
Police sealed off the area and started to talk to the man, who they say became aggressive at times towards the police.
After police talked to the man for sometime, he became agitated and started to move towards the street.
The man also made threats that he would injure himself with the knife, police said.
Officers then used the Taser, which fires a projectile connected to the hand unit by an extendable wire to give an electric shock that temporarily stuns its target.
Police said the 41-year-old man was disarmed, and after being checked by paramedics, was taken to Dandenong Hospital for assessment.
