That’s hospitality!

By Kelly Yates
DANDENONG’S disadvantaged youths have the opportunity to take part in a free hospitality course.
The 14-week course, starting on 25 February, is a project initiated by council’s Castle Café, William Angliss, and Chisholm TAFE, for young people between 15 and 19 years.
Council’s café training coordinator Sarah Vanis said the course gave young people the opportunity to gain qualifications in hospitality and retail and learn English as a second language.
William Angliss is providing the training for the hospitality units while Chisholm is providing the English training.
“Council’s youth services will provide support and case management to the young people in the program,” Ms Vanis said.
She said the course would target young people who had been disconnected from mainstream education for a minimum of three months.
“It will further assist young people to find pathways into education or training up to three months from completing the course,” she said.
Cr Alan Gordon said council was keen to see the young people in Greater Dandenong accept the challenge.
“The program was created because there is a need for disadvantaged young people, particularly from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, to have assistance in accessing opportunities for further education and training,” he said.
The hospitality course will be held at the Paddy O’Donoghue Centre in Noble Park.
