A PAINTING demonstration by Glenn Hoyle and one-on-one discussions with artist Elisabeth Williams proved winners with the crowd at the Walker Street Gallery on Sunday.
The gallery’s Get Into Art open day, a statewide initiative of the Public Galleries Association of Victoria, came alive with art, music and culture.
Guest band Swamp Rock Quartet had visitors bopping during the day, and Elisabeth Williams sold more than one-third of her exhibited works.
Greater Dandenong mayor Youhorn Chea said many visitors gave feedback after the event.
“If the positive reviews are anything to go by, the gallery’s Get Into Art Open Day was a resounding success,” Councillor Chea said.
“The event aimed to introduce to the world of art people who may never have stepped foot in a gallery before. I’m pleased to say it appeared to have achieved this goal.”
Cr Chea said the Walker Street Gallery held monthly exhibitions and special events throughout the year.
“It really is an impressive gallery and I encourage residents to take advantage of what it has to offer,” he said. The Walker Street Gallery is on the corner of Walker and Robinson streets, Dandenong. It is open Monday to Friday between 11am and 5pm, and on Saturdays between 11am and 3pm.
