Grants for waste

STATE Government funds to help establish recycling facilities are wafting in for Greater Dandenong manufacturers.
Last week the State Government announced $51,000 for a plant to convert plastic waste into energy, and $135,000 for a plant to convert timber waste into mulch.
A plastic recycling plant developed by Transpacific Technical Services in Dandenong will divert more than 3000 tonnes of plastic waste from landfills to be transformed into energy briquettes for industrial use, according to Dandenong MP John Pandazopoulos.
“The other positive benefit is that 15 Victorians will gain employment through the use of a supported employment service to separate the plastic for reuse,” he said.
The $51,000 grant will be sourced from the State’s Business Energy Innovation Initiative he said.
Meanwhile, Mossrock Australia in Lyndhurst will use a $135,000 grant to convert timber waste into mulch for use in the EastLink project.
Lyndhurst MP Tim Holding said Mossrock’s plant would mean 25,000 tonnes of timber waste would be diverted from landfill in the plant’s first year of operation and 30,000 tonnes annually thereafter.
“Our investment in Mossrock’s development plans is good for the environment and good for business,” he said.
