A STUNNING seven-length heat win at Sandown Park has thrust Train A Journey into contention for the rapidvite.com National Sprint Championship.
The spritely 12-time group finalist recorded his best time at the Sandown on Thursday night, stopping the clock at 29.59 seconds.
The bolters of the meet were Mepunga Hope and Merl’s Daddy, paying $42.20 and $40 respectively, while track debutant Slater edged out Miss Mini Mouse in a gripping lunge for the line.
In other results, Group One Silver Chief winner Meticulous led all the way from box five to stop the clock at 29.65, and Nitro Nori kept Darren McDonald’s chances of a second National Sprint title alive with a heat win.
Sandown Park will host the Victorian final of the rapidvite.com National Sprint Championship tonight (Thursday) with the box draw for the grand final to follow the race.
