Quick end to possible siege

A STRONG police response brought about a rapid end to a possible siege in Noble Park this week.
Police were called to a Chandler Road house at 8pm on Monday after a man armed with a revolver entered the property and demanded that two of the three occupants leave. The two men left the house, contacted police and told them that the third man, a 55-year-old, was in the house with the armed man.
Police responded with 13 units, including two canine units and two Critical Incident Response Teams.
Detective Senior Constable Stuart Freeman from Greater Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit said police avoided a siege situation after quickly negotiating with the gunman.
Police charged a 28-year-old Noble Park man with aggravated burglary with a firearm, being a prohibited person with a firearm, possessing amphetamine and other drug and firearm-related offences.
The man was remanded in custody to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later this week.
