A top performer

A KEYSBOROUGH student has been chosen among the state’s top performing arts students for the 2006 VCE year.
James Cross, a former Haileybury drama student, will now perform at Hamer Hall on 8 June as part of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority’s (VCAA) Top Acts: Season of Excellence celebration.
The Season of Excellence, which is managed by VCAA, comprises works and performances by last year’s VCE visual and performing arts students chosen by expert panels of teachers and curriculum advisers.
Top Acts presents VCE performing arts students from 2006 who achieved outstanding results in dance, drama, theatre studies, and music.
As part of his VCE drama folio last year James performed a seven minute solo as the famous Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
His outstanding performance led to his inclusion in the Top Acts celebration.
The two-hour concert will consist of a series of stunning performances which include contemporary and classical music, scripted and originally devised drama and dance pieces suitable for secondary students, their teachers and parents.
Head of Performing Arts at Haileybury Stewart Bell said James was one of the best actors to go through Haileybury in the past ten years.
“He had an enviable record as a lead in both plays and musicals and his selection for Top Acts is a fitting finale to his performance career at Haileybury.”
