Dayna lines up for big league

By Glen Atwell
KEYSBOROUGH student Dayna Schinz has written her name into the history books of Haileybury College as the first female school captain.
The year 12 student, who also represents Victoria as an under-20 basketballer, is the first female to represent the student body of the new girls senior school at Haileybury.
Dayna was overjoyed to be elected and said she looked forward to the challenges ahead.
“I’m honoured to be the first female school captain. It’s going to be a hectic year but I’m excited about it,” she said.
Dayna said Haileybury’s parallel education system, single-sex classes in a co-educational college, meant students had the best of both worlds.
“It’s the best system out there. We have same sex classes but then can mix with everyone during breaks.”
Dayna, who stands 188 centimetres tall, has trained with the Dandenong Rangers basketball team and hopes to one-day play in the Women’s National Basketball League.
“School is my number one priority, but basketball is a big part of my life,” she said.
