POLICE busted three hoons drag racing along Dandenong Road on Saturday.
A 21-year-old Eumemmerring man, a 19-year-old Narre Warren man, and a 28-year-old Clayton man had their cars impounded until Tuesday after police clocked them travelling at 160kmh in a 70kmh zone along Dandenong Road in Clayton at 11pm on Saturday.
As part of Operation Bunny, which aims to reduce vehicle collisions, a marked police car from Stonnington Traffic Management Unit apprehended the speedsters, two of whom were P-platers.
The cars included a Ford XR6, a VT Commodore and a Ford station wagon.
Police said the men were not known to one another.
Following a roadside interview, police said the three men had been summonsed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates Court at a later date.
Acting Sergeant James Robbins said it was disappointing that the road safety message did not seem to be getting through to some motorists.
“It is lucky these guys didn’t end up a statistic, particularly on this Easter long weekend.
“Motorists who disobey the speed limit are not only putting their own lives at risk, but also the lives of their passengers and other road users,” he said.
