Fundraiser for Ben

A GALA fundraiser will be held in Dandenong tomorrow (Friday) night to help raise the $100,000 needed to give a seven-year-old boy a second lease on life.
Mount Martha resident Ben Horsburgh was born with a rare condition that resulted in his bladder being turned inside out.
As the seven-year-old grows, doctors fear this will have a devastating impact on his lifestyle.
Ben’s condition affects one in 40,000 children at birth.
Professor in paediatric urology at Baltimore’s Children’s Centre in the United States John Gearhart has offered to perform a corrective operation for free.
But airfares, a 12-week hospital stay and other medical costs mean Ben and family will need $300,000 for the corrective surgery.
The family has raised $200,000, but will aim to raise even more at Dandenong’s Grand International Reception Centre tomorrow.
The fundraiser costs $60 per person and includes a three-course meal, beer, wine, soft drink, door prizes, and a night of entertainment hosted by AFL legend Doug Hawkins.
Comedian Nigel McCuller will make an appearance, as will champion impersonator Andrew Startin, whose impressions of football talking heads Sam Newman, Dennis Commetti, Bruce McAvaney and Mike Sheehan have won him national acclaim and television coverage.
The night begins at 7.30pm. For tickets contact Maria Plummer on 0414 412 449.
