GREATER Dandenong City councillor Paul Donovan is hoping to shred a stairway to heaven for people of all backgrounds with the godly messages performed by his Christian rock band.
The band, Paul Donovan’s Heavenly Realm, will perform live at the RokFest concert to be held at The Castle in Dandenong this Friday.
Cr Donovan will play electric guitar in the band he described as being like “Linkin Park without the rapper”.
He admits that being part of a rock band is an unusual move for a local councillor but it’s something that has long been a passion.
“It’s what I really love,” he said.
“We have a positive Christian message that I hope people find uplifting and inspiring.”
Cr Donovan said the band’s 10 original songs drew upon Christian values.
His favourite song, Nations Will Come, is indicative of this.
“It’s about how eventually everyone will one day come down and bow before God,” he said.
“God cares about all nations, not just a select group of people.”
The group of teachers devoted to spreading Christian values through the medium of rock is one day hoping to release an album, Cr Donovan said.
But before then, it’s all about reaching people through live performances – and perhaps even becoming a rock god himself.
“It would be an unusual move from local councillor to rock god,” he said with a laugh.
“I just hope people can be inspired by the songs when we get out there and play them.”
