POLICE are investigating a suspicious fire at a Clayton pizza shop early Sunday morning.
Papa Johns in Carinish Street was extensively damaged in the fire which started about 2.40am.
The Arson Squad attended the scene but Detective Senior Constable Andrew Dunsford of Oakleigh CIU said they were now conducting the investigation.
Det Sen Con Dunsford said the damage bill would exceed $100,000 and it appeared that someone had forced entry and had used an accelerant to start the blaze.
A spokesperson for the Clayton Metropolitan Fire Brigade said five trucks and 16 firefighters had attended the scene.
“It took just over 10 minutes to get the fire under control once we got the call we were down there in less than three minutes.
“That really helped us get it under control quickly,” the spokesperson said.
He said a wall blew out as a result of the intense heat and safety barricades were later erected in the street.
