Policeman hurt: Youth charged

AN 18-YEAR-OLD Sudan-ese man has been ordered to appear before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court next month on charges of assaulting a police officer.
On Wednesday 10 October, after the funeral of 19-year-old Sudanese man Liep Gony, two detectives from the Dandenong Crime Investigation Unit were driving along Isaac Street, Noble Park, about 2am when they stopped to talk to a group of about 20 youths standing in the middle of the road.
The detectives asked the youths, who were aged from late teens to early 20s, to move off the road and to quieten down.
Police said a man from the group then assaulted one of the detectives, Detective Senior Constable Scott D’Razario.
Police said a number of other youths then joined in and the detective was kicked a number of times. The youths then fled.
Det Sen Const D’Razario was taken to Dandenong Hospital suffering facial injuries and cut hands.
An 18-year-old man was arrested and kept in police custody until appearing before the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court last week.
His case has been adjourned until 15 November.
