ISAACS MP Mark Dreyfus is one of several Federal MPs riding from Melbourne to Sydney this week to raise money for prostate cancer research.
Mr Dreyfus is currently riding in the Pollie Pedal, an annual fundraiser that leaves Melbourne, passes through 1000 kilometres of Victorian and New South Wales countryside, and then arrives in Sydney on Tuesday 8 April.
“This year, we’re raising money for the dedicated Prostate Cancer Research Institute and for research into men’s health and cancer,” Mr Dreyfus said before departing.
“It will be fantastic to be out there on the bike for such a great cause.
“Prostate cancer kills almost 3000 Australian men each year. Although it can be cured through early detection and treatment, further research remains critical in the fight against this deadly disease.”
Mr Dreyfus said he trained hard in the lead up to the event.
“I’ve been training with a group of members and senators who like to go for a serious ride in the morning. Not surprisingly, a few of them are quite competitive,” he said.
Over the past decade, Pollie Pedallers have ridden 11,000km to raise more than $1m for organisations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Ronald McDonald House, Youth Insearch, and the Paralympic Games as well as medical research into childhood leukaemia and diabetes.
