SPRINGVALE North has ascended to second spot in their section of Tennis Victoria Pennant Grade One after a rousing victory over Coatesville on Saturday.
The Grade One debutants got off to an ideal start, with Stephen Fotakis proving too strong for Coatesville number one Josh Smith in the opening rubber.
Fotakis breezed to a 6-4 6-3 win, before teammate Zoran Josic jumped to a one-set lead over Tynan Smith.
But the home side hit back, with Smith claiming the next two sets 6-3 6-1 and number three Ottavio Boron winning a tough three-setter (4-6 7-6 6-3) against Springvale North’s Rob Cvitkovic.
Still, the superior depth of the visitors shone through as teenage talent Trent Cobb powered to a straight sets victory (6-3 6-3) against Remi Siemianow.
A two-set advantage was enough to secure the tie for Springvale North and keep them within two points of ladder leaders Gladstone Park.
