BASKETBALLERS from across Victoria will have the rare opportunity to stake their claim for a spot on a Women’s National Basketball League roster later this month, when the Dandenong Rangers host a one-off trial session at Stud Road.
The young hopefuls will be vying for the attention of Rangers head coach Dale Waters, as he casts his eye over the gathered talent on Monday, 26 May.
It is only the second year that the Rangers have hosted the trial session, but Waters has reason for optimism after unearthing two quality recruits in 2007.
“Last year’s trial was a tremendous success, with the likes of Amelia Todhunter and Clare Papavs cementing regular positions within the playing group,” Waters said.
“Amelia was recognised for herseason’s contribution by being awarded the Rangers’ Most Improved Player for 2007/08.
“I think this clearly demonstrates that these trials are a definite opportunity for aspiring female basketballers to press for a position with one of the WNBL’s most reputable programs.”
The Rangers anticipate that three to five squad positions will be up for grabs.
The session will be held from 5.30-7.30pm on 26 May.
Application forms are available at www.dandenongrangers.com or by calling Dale Waters on 0420 313 962.
