GREATER Dandenong councillors overturned an officer’s recommendation to allow a large satellite dish to be installed on top of a Dandenong house because it may impair neighbouring residents’ views.
A council officer had recommended in a report presented to Mon-day night’s council meeting that a permit be granted for a satellite dish to be installed at a unit in Macpherson Street, Dandenong.
“The proposed development has been assessed against the requirement of the Greater Dandenong Planning Scheme and is considered suitable for approval,” the report said.
The council received eight objections from residents, and Dandenong Ward councillor Jim Memeti moved an alternate recommendation to refuse the permit for the dish, which would have a diameter of 2.3 metres.
“The height and size of the satellite dish is excessive,” the alternate recommendation read.
“The satellite dish is inappropriately positioned on top of the existing garage and would have adverse impacts on the streetscape of Macpherson Street.”
Councillors supported the alternate recommendation.
