SCHOOLS and businesses are building stronger links in Melbourne’s south-east thanks to a unique initiative.
Dandneong-based South East Local Learning and Employment Network’s Local Community Partnerships (LCP) division this week revealed to the Star its Adopt-a-School program which involves a business committing to train students from a local secondary college in its specific field.
LCP coordinator Alex Palazzolo said this week’s example involved the Cardinia LiFE sports complex in Pakenham and its partnership with Pakenham Secondary College.
Mr Palazzolo said the students from the school’s regional sport and recreation program had travelled to Cardinia LiFE each Friday for the past several weeks to undertake an educational program on what it takes to carry out a career in the field.
This week the program culminated in students taking sports sessions with younger students from nearby Pakenham Consolidated School.
The program ended with a presentation of certificates to each secondary college student acknowledging their participation.
