A REEL big deal is being made of the Mayor’s Fishing Challenge that will take place at Dandenong Creek in April.
Families, young fishers and those who want to cast a line for the first time can join in all the fun of the City of Greater Dandenong’s inaugural Mayor’s Fishing Challenge on Friday 4 April at Dandenong Creek.
The Future Fish Foundation, through Victoria’s recreational fishing grants program, is supporting the event with $1250 and has provided 50 fishing rods that will be on loan to newcomers to the wonderful recreational pastime.
Greater Dandenong mayor John Kelly said the event would be a fun day out.
“I don’t think there could be a better way of ending the school holidays than with a family day of fishing,” Cr Kelly said.
“It will be an even better day out with some great prizes up for grabs, some free fishing rods and a free barbecue by the Dandenong Lions Luncheon Club to keep young minds on the job.
“Compleat Angler Dandenong is also a wonderful supporter of this event and have provided council with a number of rods that will be given away on the day.”
All the fun of the Mayor’s Fishing Challenge will take place at the Dandenong Creek behind the basketball stadium at 270 Stud Road, from 11am until 2pm.
“This family friendly event is certainly going to be a lot of fun. There are plenty of fish and it won’t take long for someone to land the big one,” Cr Kelly said.
He said it was important to remember parental supervision was essential at the event.
Children pre-registering for the event will go into a draw to win one of 50 new fully rigged fishing rods. To enter send an email to fish@cgd.vic.gov.au with your name, address and age. Pre registration closes Tuesday 1 April.
