ABOUT 450 families embraced the Christmas season at the Dandenong RSL on Sunday.
The Christmas spirit was at its best thanks to Bill and Lorraine Knight, who generously hosted the function.
Mr Knight has been running the event for six years and describes this year’s as being a “happy day” for everyone.
The fun lasted from 11.30am to 4pm, with children aged between nine and 12 showered in prizes and fed popcorn, sausages, hamburgers, soft drinks and icy poles.
According to Mr Knight, 22 people turned up to help coordinate the day, dedicated to members of the RSL.
Guests included local families from Dandenong and the surrounding suburbs of Cranbourne and Pakenham.
To top off the day, Santa dropped by to pay a special visit to the crowd.
After the excited children laid out this year’s Christmas wish lists, performances were given by a magician and entertainer Rick Charles.
After an eventful day, Mr Knight said he and the staff were worn out.
“We were a little bit tired at the end of the day,” he said. “But it was worth it.”
With the continued success of the day, Mr Knight and his wife intend to keep spreading the Christmas cheer to children and their families for many years to come.
“The feedback has been exceptional.
“It is a great day,” he said.
