KEYSBOROUGH Bowls Club is hoping residents will ‘roll up’ to its Family Bowls Day in October.
The open day is free and will allow all people young and old to experience lawn bowls and see whether it is the sport for them.
Club spokesman Ray Johnstone said the family day would kick off at 10am on Sunday 28 October at the Keysborough Bowls Club.
As a reward for making the effort to try bowls, the club will hold a free sausage sizzle at the conclusion of bowling, about 12.30pm.
Mr Johnstone said Keysborough was a progressive club on the lookout for young players who would ensure its future.
In the past, Mr Johnstone said some bowls clubs he had played at contained members who were not keen on young bowlers.
But that attitude was easy to change, he said, by showing older bowlers they have the wisdom and experience to hand on to juniors.
“So instead of being seen as a nuisance, older bowlers have seen these kids as their prodigies,” Mr Johnstone said.
He said playing bowls was affordable, with discounts given to younger bowlers.
“The bowls themselves can be expensive if you buy new ones, but second-hand ones are affordable,” he said.
“But the bowls club has second-hand ones available that people can borrow until they afford to get their own.
“Juniors are half-price everything.”
