THE MIDDWAY Cobras Football Club was drinking from the sweet cup of success last week after a stunning victory in the RecLink B Grade grand final.
After a motivational speech from AFL legends Tim Watson and Billy Brownless, the Cobras made their way onto the Junction Oval turf to battle for the premiership against the Odyssey Blues.
The Cobras were dominant throughout the game to run away 33-point victors.
Club president Don Cameron congratulated the team, and in particular coach Gary Lambert, who has given years of service to the Cobras, a team comprised of some of Greater Dandenong’s most disadvantaged people.
“Gary Lambert has spent most of the last decade taking people who are down on their luck and transforming them into premiership winning footballers,” Mr Cameron said.
“Whether it be cutting up onions for hours on end for a Bunning’s barbecue fundraiser, ringing up players who are going through tough times, standing around on cold and wet nights in Doveton training the team or many other countless things Gary does, the players of MIDDWAY Cobras and their families could never thank him enough for the care he gives the least, the lost and the lonely of our community.”
