NUI Dat may have been Australia’s operational headquarters during the Vietnam War, but last weekend it was the source of a fun day out for the Greater Dandenong community.
The Dandenong RSL hosted Nui Dat 3, the third incarnation of a re-enacted “concert for the troops” complete with a six-minute long RAAF Roulette flyover, Cold Chisel cover band, and large truck used as the main stage.
The concert was a means of remembering the fallen and since-departed Vietnam troops, while also tying local Vietnam Veterans more closely to Anzac Day celebrations.
Veteran welfare agency Carry On provided a barbecue lunch and The Rats of Tobruk drum and pipe band led a bill of entertainers that included Rick Charles and Gold Chisel.
The Australian Army had artillery and truck exhibits, as hundreds of people enjoyed a good drink and hours of reminiscing with old mates.
