BUNNINGS was the perfect location to attract first-time dads to a child safety and CPR course.
The City of Greater Dandenong’s maternal and child health unit organised Monday night’s event, hosted by Bunnings Dandenong, to educate fathers on how to make their home safe for children and, in case of emergency, how to perform child CPR.
Early parenting liaison office Karen Mildren said the night was such a success that the unit would consider holding future programs.
She said about 13 dads turned out for the program, spurred on by the dad-friendly setting of Bunnings.
“We wanted to find a venue we thought dads would be comfortable walking into,” Ms Mildren said.
“And because they had to think about making their home safer, Bunnings was a great place because they sell the (safety) products.” City mayor Youhorn Chea said it was vital that people knew what to do in the event of an injury or medical emergency, particularly when young children were involved.
“The actions you take in an emergency may save your child’s life.
“Learning how to tackle such a situation could one day be your best insurance against disaster.”
