Double dip on raceday charity anthem

One of the highlights of Sandown Classic day was the performance of the Australian National Anthem by Karen Gauci, wife of popular jockey Darren, and two of their four children Bree, 13, left, and Jade, 17. Continuing a three-year tradition, the Melbourne Racing Club donated $5000 to the charity of Karen’s choice, Whitelion, which assists troubled youth. Already a great gesture, members and on-course patrons were even more impressed after the main race when the winning owner’s representative Nick Williams doubled the donation on behalf of his father Lloyd. As for the Gauci family’s performance of the anthem, it was as good as any ever sung at the track and brought a huge cheer from the big crowd. One of the highlights of Sandown Classic day was the performance of the Australian National Anthem by Karen Gauci, wife of popular jockey Darren, and two of their four children Bree, 13, left, and Jade, 17.
