COOMOORA Primary School will host a community health expo this month to encourage students to eat healthy food and exercise often.
The Springvale South school is hoping to tackle childhood obesity between 17 and 20 September when it holds the Coomoora Health Expo at its new general purpose hall.
Students will benefit from a range of healthy eating activities and physical games during normal school hours.
But the school’s health coordinator, Lio Lay, said parents, students and the wider community could visit the school between 3.30pm and 6pm on Monday 17 September and Tuesday 18 September to take part in the exhibit’s demonstrations.
“We will have free showbags, face painting, and parents demonstrating how to cook healthy food to other parents,” Ms Lay said. “We are really trying to promote healthy eating and we have aligned this with our canteen menu.”
Ms Lay said physical activity was just as important as a healthy diet, and students would be encouraged to substitute video games and television for a kick of the footy or any other physical activity.
