SPRINGVALE students are asking residents to dig deep and donate to a school garden project that will teach children valuable gardening tips and techniques.
The Lions Club of Springvale has teamed up with Springvale Heights Primary School to help deliver a 12 metre by seven metre school garden.
Springvale Lions Club president Jim Cooper said the school first approached the club in 2005 to teach the children about gardening, which blossomed into plans to plant and grow their own garden on school grounds.
“It has stemmed from there to the current project which has become bigger than Ben Hur,” he said.
The school now plans to grow fruit and vegetables, which students will pick and then learn how to cook as part of an ongoing lifestyle education program.
Mr Cooper said the Lions and school were calling for donations of money, plants and garden tools from local residents. Donors can also buy a paver, or a group of pavers, which will be inscribed with their name.
Money raised to date has laid the foundations.
To donate money or goods, or purchase a paver, contact Jim Cooper from Lions Club of Springvale on 9548 0016, or Tarryn Faithful from Springvale Heights Primary School on 9548 0885.
