A CAMPAIGN for new leadership began with an old twist in the Isaacs electorate last week.
Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke helped launch the campaign office of Labor’s Isaacs candidate, Mark Dreyfus, in Chelsea on Sunday 14 October.
Mr Dreyfus this week told the Star that his office –on busy Nepean Highway – had attracted a lot of attention from people seeking a change in Federal Government.
“There has been a very enthusiastic response since the campaign office opened,” he said.
Mr Dreyfus said that 250 people attended the office opening, with many of them concerned about the Howard Government’s WorkChoices industrial relations reforms.
“There is tremendous community support for the campaign and people continue to tell me how important changing WorkChoices is going to be,” he said.
“It’s the reason why many people are changing their vote at this election.”
Mr Dreyfus’ main opponent for the marginal seat is Liberal candidate Ross Fox, who earlier this year had the help of Federal Treasurer Peter Costello to open his campaign office in Carrum Downs.
