POLICE are appealing for public help to catch a man who stole cash from the Serbian Orthodox Church last month.
Police said the theft occurred about 1.35am on Sunday, 8 April after a midnight mass at The Serbian Orthodox Church in Keysborough.
It is believed the man entered the office area after the service and stole a tin of cash.
Priest Cedomir Videkanic said: “About $1800 was taken, that’s an estimation because the takings on that day weren’t counted.”
Mr Videkanic said he was appalled that someone could take money that was intended for charity.
“I am shocked by the principle that someone could steal something that belongs to the community,” he said.
After taking the money, the man left the church in a dark coloured, 80s model Ford sedan with a bonnet scoop. Police said the man was Caucasian, about 25, 6ft, of solid build and with short brown hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and grey jeans.
Anyone with any information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
